Watering the Tulips

“For I am the LORD, I do not change” (Malachi 3:6)

Is it not somewhat amazing that there are so many ideas about God in the world today? Throughout various religions and even many sects of Christendom God is seen differently. However, the same God that created the heavens and the Earth has not changed. The same God that destroyed this world in the Flood still reigns today. The God of the Bible Who brought the children of Israel out of Egypt with a mighty hand is still able to do the same today.

“But pastor, we are living in the year 2011. Things have changed” many would declare. All of this is true. “Things” have changed. Man has taken a beautiful creation that he was given and has corrupted it. Is there any real doubt that man, at some point, will launch a world war that destroys much of the world? Is there any comfort to be found in this? Absolutely. God has told us already what is going to happen. He has told us that He is in control. Man may, in fact, perform some horrible atrocities. But, God will not allow the human race to destroy itself. He will preserve us until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Christian groups that once promoted a bit of truth now declare that Jesus is “one way” or “the best way” or even “the easiest way.” Politicians have become notorious for asking their constituents to pray to “whatever god they pray to”. Is this where we are? God’s Word has not changed. There is but one God and His name is Jehovah. “There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism” (Ephesians 4:5). Jesus is NOT “one way” into fellowship with God. He is not even “the best way”. Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through” Him (John 14:6).

Many professing believers today would say, “God is all love. He would never send anybody to hell.” My Bible says, “For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God” (Deuteronomy 4:24). Also, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord” (Romans 12:19). And again, “The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, And will not at all acquit the wicked” (Nahum 1:3). The Bible knows nothing of this god that wouldn’t send anybody to hell. God is righteous. That does not change. He cannot overlook sin. It must be punished. If He doesn’t punish it, He ceases to be righteous and we know this cannot happen because He does not change.

Folks, it seems that almost everybody is trying to mold a god into the form they want him to be today. But, this is not the way we are to respond to God. He is right. We are wrong. He is holy. We are unholy. He is righteous. We are corrupt. He doesn’t need changing. We do!

Child of God, stop trying to change God into whatever you want Him to be. Don’t enter your personal Bible study to prove whatever you want God to be. Open His Word with the idea that it needs to change you. We are the ones that need changing.
