Watering the Tulips

“He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming quickly.’ Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!” - Revelation 22:20

Jesus is coming!! And it should be noted, He is coming soon! We must be daily live in light of the coming of Christ. Certainly, this will change the way we live our lives if this ever sinks in. It’s one thing altogether to theologically understand that Jesus is returning. It’s another thing altogether to practically apply this blessed truth in our lives.

The return of Jesus is imminent. Imminent can be defined as “threatening to occur at any moment”. Knowing this, our minds should constantly be looking for the return of Christ. Paul tells us that we should be “looking for that blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).

When Jesus was carried up in a cloud to Heaven, two men in white apparel told the disciples, “This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into Heaven” (Acts 1:11). One of the basic fundamental tenets of the Christian faith is the bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ. We must continually think of it!

What is the benefit of such an understanding? There are certainly many benefits to knowing the truth of Christ’s return. It should change the way you live your life. For instance, if you knew for a fact that Jesus was returning tomorrow at noon, would you do anything differently? If anybody honestly answers that question, it must be answered emphatically, “yes!”. People whose prayer life has been stagnant would suddenly become prayer warriors. Folks who had no missionary zeal would immediately become great missionaries. The doctrine of the imminent return of Jesus is a life changing truth if we apply it in our lives!

The reality is, Jesus certainly may return tomorrow at noon…or before! His coming is “threatening to occur at any moment”. Are you satisfied with your spiritual life? Are you satisfied with the work you are doing for the Lord? Would you be embarrassed if the Lord found you as you are right now? Or, could you say with Paul, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:7-8).

Child of God, prepare yourself – the King is coming. He is returning soon. One must only look around and see that the signs of Jesus’ coming are being fulfilled daily. Are you living in light of His coming?
