The Danger of Mislabeling

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” – Isaiah 5:20

God’s standard doesn’t change with the times.  The same thing God declared to be sin in the Old Testament remains sin today.  Though they wouldn’t like to admit it, God is still Sovereign over our leaders and judges.  Their decisions do not change Him.  No matter what may be deemed “good” in this world, it is still “evil” if God says it is.

We certainly hate to think about it, but the vast majority of the population of this world will spend eternity in the Lake of Fire.  They hate God and His standards.  They are being led by the “prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:2).  We, as believers, shouldn’t be surprised then when we see a movement towards an ungodly worldview by those around us.  God said this would happen long ago.

What is the real problem?  That is a simple answer.  Sin is the problem.  Man became rebellious towards God in the Garden of Eden.  As time has gone by, he has become more and more rebellious.  This is not to say he has become more depraved, mind you.  The natural man is totally depraved.  But, society has become more and more accepting of sinful practices which are nothing more than rebellion against God and His creation.  The lost of this world hate God, His standards and His people.  As we head towards the return of our Lord, “perilous times” will be the norm (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

Are there more problems that help to fuel the sin problem?  Of course.  If an ungodly people have a good leader, they will not be as wicked as they otherwise would be.  This can be seen in everything from our jobs to Old Testament history.  However, “when a wicked man rules, the people groan” (Proverbs 29:2).  Simply, the leaders of the world today are wicked people.  You’ll search a long time to find a godly man or woman among the leaders of people today.  That is not to say there are none –there are.  But, a godly leader today is the exception rather than the rule.  As a result, people in this world are becoming more and more sinful.

So, what is coming?  The Bible doesn’t leave us in the dark here.  First of all, there is coming a leader that is so wicked that the Word of God labels him as the “man of sin” (2 Thessalonians 2:3).  This wicked leader will oppose God and all that is true and right.  We see that being set up before our eyes, folks.  It is clear.  And yet, we find encouragement in this.  “How”, one may say.  Simple.  As we see this time setting up, we know that the return of our Savior is on the Horizon.  He will take us home to the place He has been preparing for us.  Oh Glorious Day!!  Be encouraged, Child of God.  Jesus is coming soon.
